The 4th of July weekend promises to be a shopping bonanza for bargain hunters. This time of year is a great time to shop for both clothing and home décor items like this Arabella Garden Stool from Pier 1 Imports. Customers have already bought most of their summer fashions and summer home furnishings and business is slow at retail stores. Retailers looking to unload seasonal merchandise will aggressively seduce shoppers with terrific sales and deals. Here are my tips for making the most of summer sales.
- Shop early in the day and shop the Friday of the 4th of July weekend. Most shoppers value their beauty sleep above getting the best deals so getting to the mall early, or shopping online before everyone else increases your chances of getting the items you want in the size you want and a price you are willing to pay.
- Shop often. Shopping frequently increases the odds of snapping up the best items at the best prices. If you wait too long you get stuck with leftovers. Be leftovers I mean home décor items so ugly no one with taste would buy them at any prices and racks of clothes in ridiculous sizes like extra small and even smaller.
- Buy basics you can use now and later. I found a pair of black Capri pants I loved so much that I bought 2 pairs, both on sale of course. A chic sleeveless top, an outdoor rug in a timeless style are seasonal purchases that will work beautifully now and for summers to come.
- Keep your receipts for at least 60 days and keep all sales tags on the items you buy until you actually use that item. It's easy to indulge in impulse buys when bargains are everywhere. Keeping your receipts and the tags on the item makes it easier to return items if you change your mind or find something you like better.
