She wrote a book on entertaining that includes crafts and recipes, but Tori Spelling is NOT some Martha Stewart knock off! The entertaining book celebraTORI: Unleashing Your Inner Party Planner to Entertain Friends and Family distinguishes itself from typical Martha Stewart entertaining books by not taking itself too seriously.
While Martha Stewart all about achieving domestic perfection, Tori Spelling comes across as more human and relatable. Tori blends humor and humility to create a book filled with personality. Tori discusses everything from her control issues to some of her party disasters in a friendly conversational tone that makes you want to hang out with her for the the entire book. Fans of Tori Spelling should love this book. It's filled with beautiful photography including lots of pictures of Tori and her friends and family.
The beautiful pictures of food and party decor emphasize the "fun" aspect of the party but the reality is that this is not a book for the lazy hostess. Reading what was involved in preparing for an event, complete with hand made decorations, party favors, food etc. is a more work and more involved than the casual hostess might like, but Tori does deliver a complete package for each party, covering everything from party invitations, food, decor and party favors. She also offers useful advice on general topics such as flowers and dealing with children that apply to partying in general. The fun entertaining ideas range from game night, spa get togther, cowboys and lace party, and a chic caftans and cocktails party which offered a more sophisticated take on a 70's theme party. The pictures are great, the writing is fun and engaging but this book would have benefitted from less pictures of Tori and more ideas for different types of parties.
