Exercising Your Options

Too many otherwise style savvy women dress in unflattering baggy clothes while exercising their way to a more attractive body.  What these women need is an workout wear makeover.  A few simple wardrobe upgrades make it possible to look chic while breaking a sweat.

Wearing colors in the same color family creates a more pulled together look.    Dark to medium colored pants with a lighter or slightly brighter top in the same color family draws the eye upward with more continuity than a wearing a bright shirt that sharply contrasts with black pants.  For example, cool colors like a mauve or raspberry colored tank or T-shirt works with plum colored pants.  The wrong shoe color can be shortening as well by visually breaking up the line between the feet and legs.  Bulky bright white sneakers with too many straps and unnecessary design elements added demand attention while exaggerating the size of your feet.  Sneakers in a more subdued color such as light gray, bronze, or taupe with just enough design elements added for a bit of flair creates a more sophisticated look by blending in with the whole outfit.

Danskin_womens_wrap_sweater_2999Baggy T-shirts with bold graphics in the middle of the shirt look cheap and draw attention to your middle.  Low armholes that droop towards the bust combined with a nightshirt length T-shirt just inhibits movement while making you look frumpy.  A T-shirt in a solid color that fits properly and skims the body past the waist is the most flattering style for any figure.

Women's Danskin Wrap Sweater $29.99.

The wrap top, a favorite of dancers for years, is more polished and versatile than a sweatshirt. A simple wrap top mixes just as easily with jeans, a delicate camisole and some funky necklaces as it does with yoga pants and a T-shirt.

It should be that last set of crunches making you Champion_semi_fitted_pants_1999sweat, not your clothes.  Pants in heavy weight fabrics like fleece, velour and terrycloth fabrics trap sweat and weigh you down.  Yoga pants in a medium weight fabric with a straight leg or slightly flared leg balance out the hips and make the legs look longer.  When paired with a cute knit shirt or sweater, yoga pants make the transition more gracefully from gym wear to a chic and casual day wear than sweat pants.

C9 by Champion Semi Fitted pants $19.99.
